Überraschendes Aus für olympische Bronzemedaillengewinnerin
Der Erstrundensieg über Juliane Schenk in Peking hat Maria stark gemacht
Edwin Leung from Taipei
Maria is the first olympic medalist to lost after the Beijing Olympic held last month. Chinese Taipei Open is the first BWF-event held after the olympics.
Maria, who captured the bronze medal in last month Olympic held in Beijing, also the first single in this year uber cup team, losted today in the quarterfinals rounds of the Chinese Taipei Open to her teammates Pia Zebadiah Bernadet, the sister of Kido, the current Olympic MD gold medalists. She was also the 3rd singles player of the uber cup team.
After the match I approach the ladies single head coach Marleve Mainaky (the brother of Rexy Mainaky), and the assist coach Davis Efraim (who was the mens single coach).
Marleve told me, after the olympic, Maria have taken one week rest, and also occupied by some celebration regarding her success in Olympic, hence her mentally approach only reach 70% compared with the Olympic. But her fitness and confidence still in 100% fit. Regarding her opponent, Pia Zebadiah Bernadet, they were nearly the same standard and they always competed with each other and sometimes Maria won, and sometimes Pia won. But todays match, Pia was more confidencend the mentally even raised up 50% more, fighting spirit is at topform, hence the result of the match seems to be acceptable that Pia won.
Another interesting story told by Davis Efraim, the ladies assistant coach, he told me some secret why Maria kept on winning the remaining matches in the olympic, it was because after the 1st round when she played against Germany Schenk and during the deciding 3rd set, when Schenk leading 19-18, then 20-19 match point, she saved the match point and finally win the match! It gave her endless mentally confidence after winning that critical point. Hence in the next few matches she never feel nervous in the critical moment. All the coaches agreed that experience and confidence gained from that match sure helped her in the later matches.

Pia konnte den Sieg...
...über Maria Kristin
...offenbar
...nicht so recht fassen.
