Dritter Platz für Deutschland beim Sechs-Nationen-Turnier in Kent
Sieg für Teichmann & Skropke bei den Kent Veterans Open

(16.11.06) Das deutsche Oldie-Team kehrte erfolgreich aus England zurück. Die erstmalige Teilnahme am Sechs-Nationen-Turnier, das vom 9. bis 10. November im englischen Folkstone stattfand, wurde gleich mit einem dritten Platz belohnt. Sieger des Turniers wurde wie im Vorjahr Gastgeber England vor Dänemark. Das deutsche Team startete in der Gruppe mit einer 3:6-Niederlage gegen Dänemark und einem 7:2-Sieg über Schottland und konnte somit in das Spiel um Platz drei einziehen. Nach spannenden Dreisatzspielen wurden hier die Nachbarn aus den Niederlanden mit 6:3 besiegt. Die Zusammenziehung der Altersklassen 40+, 45+ und 50+ in eine Gesamt-Mannschaftswertung haben im Teamturnier für sehr viel Spannung und Begeisterung gesorgt. Ein großer Dank gilt insbesondere unseren Mannschaftsgästen aus Irland in 40+, Michael Watt und Pat Marron, sowie der Engländerin Jane Noremberg in 50+.
Endstand: 1. England, 2. Dänemark, 3. Deutschland, 4. Niederlande, 5. Schottland, 6. Schweden.
Anschließend gab´s ein Doppelturnier
Zum elftenmal wurden anschließend von Freitagabend bis Sonntag im Folkstone Sports Centre die Kent Veterans Open in den Doppel-Disziplinen der Altersklassen O 40 bis O 70 ausgetragen. Die deutschen Spielerinnen und Spieler hatten in den Gruppenspielen meist gegen amtierende Europa- und Weltmeister aus England und Dänemark das Nachsehen und konnten so ohne Gruppensieg nicht in die Viertel- bzw. Halbfinals einziehen. Nur bei den 40ern konnte die deutsche Damendoppel-Paarung Petra Teichmann & Christine Skropke durch das gesamte Turnier einschließlich der Mannschaftswertung ohne Satzverlust marschieren und siegte auch im Finale über Betty Blair & Wendy Adams (geb. Poltan) mit 21:18 und 21:18. Im Mixed der 40er gab es einen dritten Platz für Christine Skropke an der Seite ihres irischen Partners Michael Watt.
Sechs-Nations tourt zukünftig durch Europa
Das nun zum zweiten Mal durchgeführte Nationen-Mannschaftsturnier soll auch in 2007 wieder im Monat November stattfinden. Darauf haben sich die Mannschaftsführer der teilnehmenden Nationen verständigt. Dabei soll das Turnier aber zukünftig durch Europa touren. Verhandlungen mit dem nächsten Ausrichter sind bereits angelaufen. Sobald der Veranstaltungsort verbindlich feststeht, werden wir informieren.

It is planned to hold an International Team Event commencing on the afternoon of Thursday 9th November 2006 at 14.30pm and finishing on the afternoon of Friday 10th November 2006 at around 16.30pm between the nations of Denmark, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland and Sweden at Folkestone Sports Centre. This Team Event is only for the age groups Over 40’s, Over 45’s and Over 50’s as there is not enough time to accommodate other age groups. However the Individual Tournament which commences on Friday evening (one event only) and continues on Saturday and Sunday covers all age groups from Over 40’s through to Over 65’s in five year age bands.
Play should finish at 19.30pm on Thursday and the Official Event Dinner will take place that evening commencing around 20.15pm. The Sports Centre has eight courts but we will only use six courts for Thursday and Friday as we will be putting additional seating on two courts for the Team Event.
As there are two additional teams taking part in the event this year we are having to commence play on the Thursday afternoon and we will require teams to arrive in the UK Thursday morning in time to be ready to play at 14.30pm.
The match format for the Team Event will be one men’s doubles, one women’s doubles and one mixed doubles in each of three age groups. The teams will be split into two groups of three and ranked. (please see attached Competition Prospectus). A team shall consist of a minimum of 2 men and 2 women in each age group and a maximum of 3 men and 3 women.
Badminton England are funding the cost of the Team Event.
Folkestone is the UK terminus for the Channel Tunnel and is next to Dover on the English Channel coast and has good motorway links with the rest of Kent and London.
The sports centre has in addition to the badminton courts a swimming pool, dry ski slope, fitness centre, cafeteria, bar and is attached to a 9 hole golf course. There will be a physio,
racquet stringer and sports equipment stall in attendance for the whole event.
We shall be using two hotels (no more than 5 minutes drive from the sports centre) but evening dinner will centred on the Burlington Hotel for “social” reasons. The cost of the accommodation per person per night is £38 (approx 54 euros) and includes dinner and breakfast. We shall require players to share mainly in twin rooms as we have a large number of players to accommodate. The tournament organisers will supply transport to and from the hotels to the sports centre and to and from the relevant airports. There will, however, have to be a one off charge of £12 (approx 17 euros) for the airport journeys.
Should some teams or players decide to arrive on Wednesday evening please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make the accommodation and pick-up arrangements.
The Individual Tournament will commence on Friday evening 10th November ( one event only ) and will be continued with the doubles on Saturday and the mixed doubles on Sunday.
We are offering a reduced entry fee to our international guests of £8 (approx 11 euros) per event instead of £11 (15 euros). It is planned that all tournament events would give all players a minimum of three matches which would be best of three games of 21 points under the rally point scoring law. It is intended that the tournament should end early afternoon on the Sunday to enable our guests to get flights home.
We do require confirmation by national teams that they are definitely taking part by the 20th July 2006.
Method of Competition
1 Teams from Denmark, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland and Sweden are invited to compete. In the event that one team withdraws every effort will be made to find another team.
2 The teams will be split into two groups of three. The teams will be ranked – Group 1 will consist of 1, 4 & 6 and Group 2 will be those ranked 2, 3 and 5. A team will play the other teams in their group. The group winners will play off for the title. The seconds and thirds will also play of for 3rd/4th and 5th/6th places.
3 Each tie will consist of one men’s doubles, one women’s doubles and one mixed doubles in each of three age groups Over 40, Over 45 and Over 50, i.e. a total of 9 matches. A team shall consist of a minimum of 2 men and 2 women in each age group and a maximum of 3 men and 3 women. All players must be over the relevant age for both the team and individual events on Thursday 9th November.
4 All matches will be the best of three games to 21 points under the new ‘rally point scoring’ Laws implemented by IBF in May 2006. An interval of a maximum 60 seconds when the first side reaches 11 points in each game and 2 minutes between the first and second games, and second and third games if played, will be allowed.
5 Format: Each tie will be played on three courts with one age group per court, subject to 6 below, with the exception of the 5/6 play off which will be played on 6 courts.
6 The order of play will be men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, unless otherwise agreed by the two team Captains and Referee to avoid unnecessary delays where a player is playing in two consecutive events. A player shall be entitled to a maximum of 20 minutes rest between matches. In order to progress the tie matches may be switched between courts with the agreement of the respective team captains and a Referee.

8 Each country shall appoint a Team Manager.
9 Team Managers must present their teams to the Referee 30 minutes before the scheduled start of play of each tie. Except in exceptional circumstance no player may play in more than one age group in a tie, but may play in different age groups in different ties.
10 The decision of a tie shall be determined by the greater number of matches won.
11 The decision of a group shall be decided by the highest number of ties won. If two teams are equal the winner of the tie between them will decide. If there is no winner, or more than two teams are equal the team with the greatest number of matches won in its two ties shall be the winner. If two teams are still equal the winner of the tie between them will decide. If there is still no decision the highest number of games won minus games lost will decide. If there is no winner, or more than two teams are equal the winner of the tie between them will decide. If there is still no winner the highest difference between points won minus points lost will decide.
12 No substitution shall be permitted once play in a match has started. A substitute may play in any subsequent match in that tie subject to the general rules on participation.
13 If a match is not completed the existing score of the defaulting team shall stand and the opponents will be credited with the number of games and points required to win as appropriate.
14 Suitable badminton clothing shall be worn. Advertising in accordance with IBF-Regulations will be permitted.
15 The Joint Referees are in overall charge of the Event. The Joint Referees together with THREE Team Captains, appointed by agreement, shall form a Committee to decide any policy matters related to the Event which may arise.
16 Closing date should be Thursday 12th October i e one month before the event.
17 In order that teams can get away early on Sunday afternoon I consider it necessary to play one of the larger mixed doubles age groups on Friday evening – suggest Over 50s – maybe holding over KO stage to Saturday or Sunday. Start Saturday and Sunday at 9.00 am.
18 The numbers we could accept in to the tournament are similar to those accepted last year, although their distribution between ages could be slightly different. In making this calculation I have assumed that under the rally points scoring system the length of matches would not be very different [I e 40 minutes a match until proved otherwise].
19 It is assumed that 6 courts will be available on Friday evening, and 8 courts on Saturday and Sunday.
